What happens at our meetings?

We’ve a rolling programme of meeting types, from now into the Autumn these include:

Member and Visiting Member Only Meetings

Snap Strategy Reviews

A confidential two part peer review of a single member’s project, product, process, presentation, upcoming pitch or market penetration. These 6p sessions are heavily structured, with up to 5 minutes to present to the group. Members are limited to a maximum of 2 responses, and a bar is dropped after 20 minutes of response time. This is to keep the review on point and focused.

The presenter then has the option to alter or refine based on the Snap Strategy Review and re-present the following week for another 5 minutes, where this time members respond only with a score out of 10. Follow up on any score will then be a matter of member to member contact outside the meeting. We all know first impressions count, a Snap Strategy Review is a golden opportunity to expose your thinking in a confidential, supportive environment.

Soft Skills Sessions

A confidential rolling multi-part Techniques and Strategies programme concentrating on honing and improving soft skills that we all need to succeed in business. These sessions are led by a coach or subject specialist and may include homework and follow-up, with advice on extending or continuing personal learning surfaced in the session. If you want to improve your negotiation style, presentation, rapport building with prospects, conflict management, leadership or decision making etc. these sessions are perfect.

Minification Check

A meeting where basic processes of your business (Accounting, Sales, Negotiation, Marketing etc.) are examined in concert with other members businesses in a confidential exchange of best practice and experience. The goal over several sessions is to minify* business practices and recover time we spend in administration or the doing of the work. Due to the ease of direct application to business and potential benefit of exchanged ideas, resources and materials falling out of these meetings will only be available to attendees.

*nicked from programming –  ”removing all unnecessary characters from source code, without changing its functionality.”

Members and Visitors Meetings

General Presentation

The Amersham Hub has developed a strong reputation for high quality, thought provoking presentations across a very wide subject band of current business thinking, techniques, methods and application, along with principles and effects of human drivers like trust, confidence and belief in business. These are often given without any pitch or push to product or services, and they contain high level thinking that can apply to any business.  Presentation time and discussion is generally from 20 to 40 minutes and these meeting types are open to visitors.

If as a Refer-On member (from any hub) you wish to do a presentation to the Amersham hub, or you have an outside contact that you would like to invite to talk please do let us know by emailing the Hub Director.

What to expect from Every Meeting

General Progress

  • 7.15 am  - We meet with coffee and tea and time for arrival and informal networking.
  • 7.30 am  - Breakfast and 60 second presentations around the table.
  • 8.00 am - Discussion, Presentation or Session.
  • 8.40 am - Let’s Do Business! Connections, requests or info arising from 60 seconds.
  • 8.55 am  - Announcements.
  • 9.00 am  - Meeting closes, with opportunity for informal networking in the venue.

Swap out Content

Occasionally sections in the General Progress will be swapped out for other content, here’s an idea of what that content that might be.

  • Pub Briefs  -  A 3 minute prepped opinion piece with a little time to discuss, given by a member on news, current affairs, or observations with often hidden business relevance. Gives busy business owners just enough insight to hold up their end of a pub bar conversation, or start a little research of their own.
  • Table Tasks  - Short, shared solution finding to bring a social element to problem solving and remind us all that we are not alone.

We hope you’ll visit, you’ll be assured of a warm welcome and a productive morning!

  • Testimonials

Just to let you know we have heard this afternoon that the multi-billion £'s bid by Siemens was successful, so there is lots of celebrating going on in Bracknell. Keith Wootton (Kennetiq) and Anna Eden (Fusion Promotions) were highly (and hopefully profitably) involved and it all started with a call to The Direct Marketing Business asking for help on a PowerPoint presentation!
